Three Democrats Retire
On Tuesday afternoon, North Dakota Democratic Senator Byron Dorgan announced that he will not seek re-election in 2010. Colorado Governor Bill Ritter has also decided not to run for re-election this November.
LATE BREAKING UPDATE: Leading Democratic Senator Chris Dodd of Connecticut will announce on Wednesday that he will not seek reelection in 2010 according to POLITICO and the Wasington Post.

Sen. Dodd’s retirement will make it much easier for Democrats to hold onto his seat in 2010, so I see that as a good thing. As for Sen. Dorgan, that seat’s as good as gone to the GOP, but the Dems will still retain the Senate majority when all is said and done.
